Writing Practice
On lined paper and hand in at the end: Yes, I know we've done it. It should be near perfect by now. You will be ranked in your groups on how well you do this.
1) que fais tu normalement le samedi
2) et ton meilleur ami - que fait-il le samedi, d'habitude?
3) qu'est-ce que tu as fait samedi dernier?
4) Quels sont tes passetemps?
5) Quels sont tes projets pour le weekend prochain?
Higher people: do the above + describe an amusing incident that happened last weekend
We will be working on the following areas up to half term:
1) Conversation topics 4 & 5; you must get used to preparing notes for your first chosen conversation topic
2) Reading paper practice:
Here's a resource to be used in conjunction with Foundation Reading 2008 Part 1
once you have worked through the resource, try the Fling the Teacher game (flash version)
3) Higher writing people should work through the texts and tasks in the previous blogs
boulots = emplois.
Here's an A / A* sample text about les petits jobs. It's long so it's divided into 4 parts. Study it carefully, note key words and phrases. Do the related activities and learn!
Read part 1 above carefully, then try this activity
Read Part 3 carefully then try: Multi-choice game (flash version) (html version)
Read Part 4 carefully then play this Hoop shoot game (Flash version)
Below is another higher writing sample with activities for practice. Read carefully, do the activities then try to reconstruct the French as accurately as possible. Use the 'back or reverse translation' method:
Step 1: Make vocab and phrase notes about the text
Step 2: Write 15-20 key sentences in English, based on the original text (this is basic translation)
Step 3: Put the original text away. Using only your notes, and your English sentences, try to put your sentences back into French without looking at the original. Do about 5 at a time.
Step 4: Check each of the 5 sentences you have written by comparing them with the original French.
Step 5: Build up your 'back translation' skills by redoing them and building up the number you do at a time
Have a look here for more GCSE silly mistakes exercises (Click French then it's under Topics Units about half way down the page)
Here's another sample text to work on. Analyse it closely. Make notes, especially of the phrases in red.
Use the following technique for effective results:
Step 1: read the text carefully and make sure you understand it.
Step 2: write 10 key sentences in English, based on the text. They could be direct translations
Step 3: Then, look back over the original French. make notes
Step 4: Then, without looking at the original French, put your 10 sentences back into French
If you would like me to provide a translation, please let me know.
